Below are things that students should focus on studying for the upcoming test:
- Japanese Geography: major islands, make up of the geography
- The Great Change: the changes made by Shotoku and ideas scholars brought back from China/Korea, especially government (of which some ideas will relate to what they learned last year when discussing China)
- Religions: Shinto, Zen Buddhism, Pure Land Buddhism
- Arts (what made each special to the Japanese): poetry-haiku, fashion, origami, architecture, and painting; Lady Murasaki - Tales of Genji
- Historic events: Mongol invasion, opening of Japan to foreigners, isolation, use of firearms
- Important Japanese families: Yamato and Minamoto
- Japanese Feudalism: Class structure, how classes interacted, characteristics of each class; Bushido
